THE MAGNIFICENT WATERFALLS OF CENTRAL LOMBOK

Lombok offers visitors stunningly beautiful natural landscapes and

some of the most popular tours for travellers include trekking through the jungles and rainforests to visit the island’s spectacular waterfalls.

Two very special waterfalls are located in Central Lombok, around an hour and a half drive from either Senggigi or Kuta.

These waterfalls are located in the village of Aik Berik in Central Lombok, about 27 km east of Mataram and less than one hour’s drive from the capital. The village is easily reached by car or motorbike and is set amongst pretty scenery, with green rice fields and verdant fruit orchards.

SURF’S UP LOMBOK!

It’s that time of the year again when the winds are blowing “just right” and the waves are calling all surfers to come on board!

Although inevitably compared to Bali, surfing in Lombok is a much more relaxed experience, without the crowded lineups and aggressive competition for waves.

The best part about surfing in Lombok is that the island offers something for everyone – from beginners to intermediate to surf pros!

LOMBOK WILDLIFE PARK

Since it first opened in 2017, Lombok Wildlife Park has become one of the most popular attractions in North Lombok – delighting guests and earning rave reviews on sites like TripAdvisor.

Formerly named “Lombok Elephant Park”, the wildlife sanctuary has grown over the past two years and now provides a safe home for 195 animals and 50 different species, many of which are protected. The Lombok Wildlife Park is the life-long dream of owners Fellicia and Ketut Suadika, two animal lovers who are dedicated to rescuing animals from cruel and dangerous situations.

Pak Ketut worked with animals at the Bali Bird Park for 25 years before deciding to pursue his passion and start his own animal sanctuary.

Lombok is famous for its pearls and the island is often referred to as “Pearl Island”, attracting buyers from all over Indonesia and the rest of the world to purchase these beautiful and precious “gems of the sea”.

The AUTORE Group is one of the largest South Sea pearl companies in the world and has pearl farms in Lombok, Sumbawa (the island to the east of Lombok) and West Java, in addition to their main operations in Australia.

CLIMB OUR FAMOUS VOLCANO

There are just two months left in this year to climb our majestic volcano, Mt Rinjani, before the national park authority closes trekking at the beginning of January for three months (until April 2026). If you’ve always wanted to take on this challenge, now is the time!

Mount Rinjani, Lombok’s famous volcano, soars 3,726 m above sea level and is the second highest volcano in Indonesia, attracting more than a hundred thousand visitors every year. The deep crater near the top contains a beautiful lake, Danau Segara Anak (Child of the Sea Lake) and a smaller volcanic cone, Gunung Baru Jari, which was formed a couple of hundred years ago and is still active.

VISIT THE CAT PARK

Lombok has its own cat rescue centre at the Naughty Little Cat Park in Rembiga (around 15 minutes’ drive from either Senggigi or Mataram).

The park rescues street cats from around the island, many of them in poor condition, and provides free vet care; nursing them back to health so that they can be re-homed with caring families.

However, Naughty Little Cat Park is more than just a rescue centre – the grounds house comfortable enclosures where you can visit and play with the kitties, games and art supplies for children, comfortable lounging pavilions to relax and enjoy a meal or drink, a full restaurant serving well priced and delicious meals, and a lovely gift shop.

It’s a great place to visit with children and perfect for residents looking to adopt a healthy cat (all are vaccinated and sterilised). The park is also available for private parties and functions, and is a great choice for children’s parties. All proceeds go to cat rescue and care.

EXPLORE SEMBALUN BY ATV!

The village of Sembalun, high in the mountains on the slopes of Mount Rinjani, has a natural panoramic beauty like no other. Now you can combine sightseeing in this beautiful area with the thrill of riding an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) or quad bike.

These 4-wheel off-road motorbikes are designed to handle rough terrain and are fairly easy to ride, allowing to you explore the hidden tracks and slopes around the Sembalun hills with ease.

ATV tours usually start from Sembalun Lawang Village and follow a challenging route of around 10 kilometres, crossing irrigation ditches to ride along the fields of strawberries, onions and rice grown in the valley.

Later the ride passes through a giant bamboo plantation before crossing Timba Gading River and following a steep hilly path across Bukit Daun Daun for fabulous views across the valleys.

ATV Sembalun is an adrenaline rush combined with breath-taking views and a fun adventure through one of Lombok’s most unique and stunning areas!

BAZAAR… CAKRA MARKETS!

Lombok isn’t known for its shopping opportunities. That’s Bali’s game, with its endless rows of stalls pushing T-shirts, trinkets, and “same same but different” souvenirs on every corner.

Lombok is for relaxing. It’s a place to haggle for pearls and sarongs on the beach, to explore quaint villages where artisans are still actually making things by hand…. or to brave the local markets in search of a unique collectible or quirky item at bargain prices.

For something a bit off the tourist radar, start at Pasar Cakranegara – or “Cakra Market” if you want to sound local. It’s a chaotic, colourful maze where you’ll find everything from fresh spices and woven baskets to vintage curios. It’s not the usual guidebook stop, but that’s exactly why it’s worth a look.
