LOMBOK MARATHON IN DECEMBER

The annual Lombok Marathon will take place again this year, on Sunday 3 December.

Following the success of the inaugural Lombok Marathon last year, the international race event is expected to attract as many as 5,000 participants from around the world.

Just like last year, Lombok Marathon consists of five different categories, namely the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, Ekiden Marathon (four person relay race), 10 Kilometre Run and 5 Kilometre Run.

FIRST CRUISE SHIP DOCKS IN SENGGIGI

People on Senggigi Beach were greeted with a stunning sight on Saturday, 18 November 2017 when a large ship cruised into the bay at around 8am.

The ship was the ‘Seabourn Encore’, visiting Senggigi with around 600 passengers on board.

Guests were ferried by tender to the jetty in Senggigi where they were welcomed ashore by Gamelan musicians playing traditional music.

DEBATING NAME CHANGE FOR LOMBOK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Lombok authorities are currently debating changing the name of Lombok International Airport – yet again!

The airport was originally named “Bandara Internasional Lombok” (abbreviated to BIL) when it first opened in October 2011.

In January 2016, the airport management authority, PT Angkasa Pura I (PT API), announced that the airport would be ‘rebranded’ with its English translation: “Lombok International Airport”.

DON’T MISS THE RICE WAR!

Every year a very special war takes place at Lingsar Temple in West Lombok. This isn’t a riot between warring groups and it isn’t a real war, although the name “PerangTopat” translates as “Rice Cake War”.

Topat is short for “ketupat” and are small diamond-shaped parcels of rice, which have been wrapped in woven coconut leaves and boiled – a delicious local alternative to ordinary rice.

In this friendly war, Hindus and Muslims stage a mock battle, hurling the topat at each other amidst much fun and laughter.

Three men were standing in line to get into heaven one day. Apparently it had been a pretty busy day, though, so Peter had to tell the first one, “Heaven is getting pretty close to full today, and I’ve been asked to admit only people who have had particularly horrible deaths. So what’s your story?”

So the first man replies: “Well, for a while I’ve suspected my wife has been cheating on me, so today I came home early to try to catch her red-handed.

As I came into my 25th floor apartment, I could tell something was wrong, but all my searching around didn’t reveal where this other guy could have been hiding.
