RINJANI HUNTERS AND GATHERERS!

Another private group has climbed Mt Rinjani… joining the on-going efforts of individuals to keep our iconic 3,726m volcano clean.

The trip was organised spontaneously by Indonesian nature lover, Rosita, and included Petr Hindrich, the founder of ‘green-books.org’ from the Czech Republic and ‘green-books.org’ volunteers Antonio (Italy) and Andreas (Germany).

ALCOHOL DEATHS CONTINUE

With many thousands of people travelling in Indonesia during the “high season’ over the next few months, we want to remind everyone that death and injury from methanol-contaminated alcohol continues to be a real threat.

This month, another tourist and her local partner have died from suspected methanol poisoning in Bali.

AIRPORT ROAD ALREADY FALLING APART

People travelling to and from Lombok International Airport over the past month will have noticed the frequent road closures, as crews work to fell the trees planted on the median strip.

The trees have been cut down along approximately 1.5km of the Jalan Bypass road leading to the airport.

AMALIKA VILLA… Gili T for Discerning Travellers

Twenty years ago, I was happy to follow the backpacker trail through Indonesia – staying in cheap mosquito-infested hostels, sleeping wrapped in a sarong in the hopes of escaping bed bug bites, and throwing buckets of water around a mildewy tiled room and calling it a shower.

Twenty years on and those days are far behind. Too many mornings waking up with a bad back and a few tropical diseases along the way has cured me of that kind of travel.
