This month Dian Cahyadi, co-owner of The Lombok Guide, climbed Mt Rinjani for his annual clean-up of the volcano at the start of the 2015 trekking season.
At 3,726m above sea level, Mt Rinjani is the second highest volcano in Indonesia and arguably the most important tourist attraction on Lombok. Around 44,000 people from 60 different countries visited the volcano from the April to December trekking season last year.
16 tourism areas in Bali have now been exempted from the government regulation limiting the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages by small retailers.
The nationwide ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages came into effect on 16 April 2015 after Indonesia’s Minister of Trade, Rachmat Gobel, announced a new policy that outlawed the sale of beer and “Class A” alcoholic drinks at minimarkets and convenience stores across Indonesia.

Land ownership disputes in Gili T have been problematic since the 1970’s, particularly those involving PT Trawangan Gili Indah (PT GTI), an company which apparently controls around 65 hectares of land stretching from the north to the south of the island.

Participants from Square Restaurant, Marina Café, Fave Hotel Mataram, Santika Hotel Mataram, the Oberoi Lombok, Aston Sunset Beach Resort on Gili T and Dingklik Café in Mataram enjoyed an animated and informative workshop led by trainer, Eduardo Vastolo from Italy, who is based at Illy in Hong Kong.
Youth groups in Southwest Lombok joined together for a number of events to celebrate Kartini Day and Earth Day between 21 and 23 April.
The young people are members of the Integrated Pokmaswas Sekotong – an association made up of four different groups operating in the southwest which are committed to protecting the ocean environment both above and below water.
