AYAM TALIWANG COMPETITON AT QUNCI VILLAS

There was a huge turn-out at Qunci Villas in Mangsit for their first-ever “Ayam Taliwang Competition” on Sunday, 8 February 2015.

Qunci launched the competition as part of their “Month of Love” programme, to find the best versions of Lombok’s iconic dish: Ayam Taliwang.

MAGIC MUSHROOMS… A Ticket to Prison (and not to the Moon!)

Many people don’t realise it yet, but Indonesia passed laws recently that made the sale and/or consumption of magic mushrooms a felony offence throughout the country.

The law came into effect early last year but was subject to a “grace period” while the new law was “socialised” to the public. That “grace period” ended on 1 January 2015.

Discarded plastic bottles can take 1000 years to decompose and, although many get recycled in Lombok, many more make their way into waterways, beaches and the ocean.

INDONESIA TO BAN SALE OF BEER AT MINIMARKETS

Indonesia’s Minister of Trade, Rachmat Gobel, has announced a new policy that will outlaw the sale of beer and “Class A” alcoholic drinks at minimarkets and convenience stores across Indonesia.

There are currently nine types of alcoholic beverages falling under “Class A” drinks to be banned from sale at minimarkets and convenience stores: beer, lager, ale, bir hitam or stout, low alcohol wine, carbonated alcoholic drinks (premixes) and Bali Brem.

NEW BUDGET HOTEL TO OPEN IN SENGGIGI

Lombok Senggigi Hotel is set to open shortly in central Senggigi. The new hotel is located off Jalan Arjuna, a small lane that runs off the main street of Senggigi, opposite Central Inn.

With 14 rooms, complete with air conditioning and private en-suite bathrooms with hot water, Lombok Senggigi Hotel is more up-market than normal backpacker accommodation.

MINISTRY BANS SALE OF PLANE TICKETS AT AIRPORTS

According to a report in The Jakarta Globe, the Indonesian Transportation Ministry plans to ban the sale of flight tickets at airports throughout the country.

“There will be no more ticket counters at [Soekarno-Hatta International Airport's] terminal 1, 2 and 3 [from 15 February 2015],” Yudis Tiawan, a spokesman for state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II, was quoted as saying on 2 February 2015.

SERVICE CHARGE INCLUDED ON GARUDA FLIGHTS

Garuda Airlines has announced that the cost of the passenger service charge, or “airport tax”, will be included in the price of all tickets starting from 9 February 2015.

Tickets issued on domestic and international flights purchased on or after 9 February from Garuda Indonesia will include the pre-paid passenger service charge for flights after 1 March 2015.

FALCON DEVELOPMENTS & AGI
TEAM BUILDING WEEKEND

The lucky staffs of Falcon Developments and Amanah Group International (AGI) were treated to a fantastic long weekend away by their generous bosses this month.

Staying at Wisma Soedjono in Tetebatu, employees were treated to free accommodation and meals while enjoying an exciting range of activities including trekking to Jeruk Manis Waterfall, visits to local craft villages, fun competitions and quizzes with cash prizes, traditional dances and cultural shows, as well as live entertainment in the evening by a local band.

KARYANA EXHIBITION AT QUNCI VILLAS

It is wonderful to see Qunci Villas in Mangsit supporting local talent by hosting Lombok artist Karyana as artist-inresidence during their “Month of Love” programme.

The stylish resort held an opening party for Karyana on 6 February where guests from Lombok, Bali and overseas viewed the diverse collection of Karyana’s works while enjoying cocktails and canapés.
