Expect a much larger product range of all those hard-to-find items such as imported cheeses, butter, cream, yoghurt and other dairy such as fresh milk and ice cream, as well as imported and local meats, tinned goods and other grocery items.
The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival is held annually in the cultural heart of Bali. Featuring writers and readers and celebrating all things artistic, the Festival is now an established cultural and literary event that attracts participants from around the world.

Peresean, or stick fighting, is a popular traditional sport unique to the Sasak people of Lombok.
In a Peresean duel, two competitors pit their strength and wits against each other, using heavy sticks (penjalin) to strike at each other’s bodies and defending themselves with shields (ende), made from toughened cow hide, to prevent the other from striking a blow.

It’s been a bad month for Australian surfers at popular surf spots in Bali, Lombok and Sumbawa. The changing weather often brings high winds and big waves – a surfer’s delight but also treacherous for those who take on the challenge of the seas.
Australian surfer, Peter Luke, died on 11 August while surfing Scar Reef off Jelenga Beach in West Sumbawa (the island east of Lombok). Surfers are lured to Sumbawa by the promise of huge perfect waves that break over shallow reefs.
