EASY DAY TRIP FROM SENGGIGI

We’re always being asked about easy day trips from Senggigi. While Senggigi makes a good base for exploring most parts of Lombok, a short trip up the west coast is an ideal and hassle-free way to spend a day.

Start the day with breakfast at your hotel or pop into one of the cafés and restaurants on the main street. Asmara is a good choice with options ranging from healthy yoghurt and juices through to the full Monty with bacon, sausages, eggs and baked beans. Otherwise, Banana Tree Cafe in the Galeria shops, diagonally opposite Asmara, has all day breakfasts, as well as excellent coffees, cakes and muffins.

Orchid Day Spa & Beauty Salon, the successful Senggigi-based spa, has just opened in another new location – just next to the entrance of Santosa Villas & Resort on the main street in Senggigi.

This brings the total number of Orchid Spa Salons in Senggigi to three – with locations also available in Senggigi Plaza (on the road to Senggigi Beach) and in the Galeria Shops, just north of the Senggigi Post Office on the main street.

ANOTHER PUBLIC FERRY DISASTER

Indonesia’s poor record for safety on its public ferries took yet another hit on on Thursday, 17 July 2014, when the inter-island ferry Gelis Rau caught fire while travelling between Bali and Lombok.

Fire broke out on the public ferry during a night time crossing from the port of Padang Bai in Bali to Lembar Harbour on Lombok.

The ferry departed Padang Bai at 7:45 pm and caught on fire while in rough seas. The captain diverted the ship to try to approach the nearest island of Nusa Lembongan, where it ran aground on a reef near the shore.

FIRST LOMBOK TOURISM DEVELOPMENT FORUM

A special tourism summit was held in Lombok last month to bring together tourism industry experts, government and investors to discuss the future of development in Lombok. This was the first time ever that such an event was held in Lombok, specifically for Lombok.

The Lombok Tourism Development Forum was hosted by Qunci Villas in Lombok and facilitated by Tourism Solutions International (TSI), a hospitality investment firm which, in addition to its investment and asset management activities, conducts select advisory work that is related to investment within the industry.
