THE FABRIC OF LIFE

The tradition of weaving cloth in Pringgasela is so old no one quite knows where the original idea came from. All that the people of Pringgasela know is that weaving is the life-blood of their village and has been practiced for as long as anyone remembers.

The village of Pringgasela is located in East Lombok, around 65kms and around two hours’ drive from Senggigi. Together with the village of Sukarare in Central Lombok, it is famous throughout Indonesia for the traditional woven fabrics known as Ikat and Songket.

AIRPORT CLOSURES DURING APEC SUMMIT

In the final lead up to the hosting of the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Bali in early October, travellers are reminded that Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport will be closed for extended periods between 5 and 9 October, 2013.

Although the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation has announced a schedule of planned airport closures during the event, travellers should be prepared for unexpected delays and closures closer to the date of the Summit.

The new direct flights will operate between Perth (West Australia) and Lombok International Airport four times per weekevery Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

QUESTION: I just got home from a day out in the seaside town in Blackpool, England. Never again! On the beach there was a man arguing with his wife about who should look after the baby. 

The woman left to go to the shops and the man started beating the baby with a stick. When the woman returned, the man started beating his wife and baby with a stick. A policeman was called and he took the stick and beat the man with it. Then a crocodile came along and ate all the sausages!

LOMBOK’S GOT TALENT!

The Lombok International Dance Festival features two days of dance performances, with the main focus on the Gala Event, held on the second day, where the top dancers compete in the finals.

But the first day of the Festival is an amazing event devoted to local dancers and showcases the talent that we have here in Lombok. It is also the one time of the year when local performers have the chance to demonstrate their skills to a wider audience, in front of an international panel of renowned dance adjudicators.

BALI INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL NOW OPEN

Just in time for the APEC Summit in Bali, the new international terminal at Ngurah Rai Airport is operational.

PT Angkasa Pura I (API, the airport management authority) began the process of relocating all operational aspects of its service to international air passengers to its newly-opened international terminal at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport on 19 September 2013.

IN GOOD TASTE

Good day all and welcome to paradise! It’s still busy on Gili Trawangan, with the crowd shifted from single party people to couples on holiday. I guess all the kids are back in school as they should be!

We’ve been especially busy at Gili T Resort, preparing for the “soft opening” of our new spa. My wife, Iga, has been running around like crazy to make a great spa area on our upper deck, so everyone can now enjoy a foot massage,manicure and pedicure, all while overlooking the ocean and sipping wine!
