KUNINGAN IN LOMBOK!

Balinese temples throughout Lombok were beautifully decorated and busy with crowds as our island’s Balinese Hindu community celebrated Galungan on 30 August and Kuningan on Saturday, 8 September.

Batu Bolong Temple, just south of Senggigi, is an important historical landmark, with the temple perched on top of a rocky outcrop (from which it takes its name) and fantastic views across the sea to Bali.

MENINTING TO SENGGIGI ROADWORKS

Work has commenced on the long-awaited roadwork project which will upgrade the main road from Meninting to Senggigi.

The local government has been promising to widen and repair the main road linking Senggigi to Ampenan and the cities for a number of years. The project will include repairs to the existing road, widening the lanes on both sides of the road verges and resurfacing.

This popular bar and café on the beachfront in Batu Bolong will be screening both matches live on the big screen. You can catch the AFL Grand Final on 29th September and the NRL Grand Final on 30th September

SALE OF GILI NANGGU BANNED

Controversy has been raging this week, with the owner of the Gili Nanggu Cottages and Bungalows and the West Lombok government being questioned about websites advertising the island of Gili Nanggu for sale.

Gili Nanggu is a small island located just off the coast near Tawun, Sekotong, in southwest Lombok.

SHERATON CELEBRATES 75TH ANNIVERSARY

The Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort joined Sheraton Hotels worldwide in celebrating their 75th Anniversary this month.

Special events were held on Thursday, 6 September to celebrate the anniversary and included games and competitions for staff and guests on the beachfront at the resort, a staff party and media gathering, and the release of 75 turtle hatchlings into the sea.

EL NIÑO LIKELY AGAIN THIS YEAR

Official forecasts are for the development of an El Niño weather pattern during September 2012, possibly persisting through to December-February, 2012-13.

The big unknown is how intense and how long the developing El Niño phenomenon will be.

QUESTION: My wife and I are holidaying in the fun filled town of Senggigi with its many bars and restaurants where we have started to go from bar to bar in search of friends and fun.

We always seem to end up in the Happy Café where I can get my sinuses cleared for free. Inevitably, one drink can lead to another and it is sometimes difficult to know where to stop. What do you suggest the drinking limit should be?

PROJECT MOMENTUM… Protecting our Sharks and Mantas

Congratulations to the Gili Eco Trust and Aquatic Alliance who have just won a grant from Project AWARE to support their marine conservation efforts in Indonesia.

Working together in a joint initiative called “Project Momentum”, Gili Eco Trust and Aquatic Alliance were selected as one of the five winners in the grant contest – and were the only project in Indonesia to win.
