Balinese temples throughout Lombok were beautifully decorated and busy with crowds as our island’s Balinese Hindu community celebrated Galungan on 30 August and Kuningan on Saturday, 8 September.
Batu Bolong Temple, just south of Senggigi, is an important historical landmark, with the temple perched on top of a rocky outcrop (from which it takes its name) and fantastic views across the sea to Bali.
Work has commenced on the long-awaited roadwork project which will upgrade the main road from Meninting to Senggigi.
The local government has been promising to widen and repair the main road linking Senggigi to Ampenan and the cities for a number of years. The project will include repairs to the existing road, widening the lanes on both sides of the road verges and resurfacing.
• It’s going to be a big weekend for football fans on the 29 and 30 September and, for those wondering where is the best place to catch all the action, look no further than The Beach Club.
This popular bar and café on the beachfront in Batu Bolong will be screening both matches live on the big screen. You can catch the AFL Grand Final on 29th September and the NRL Grand Final on 30th September
Controversy has been raging this week, with the owner of the Gili Nanggu Cottages and Bungalows and the West Lombok government being questioned about websites advertising the island of Gili Nanggu for sale.
Gili Nanggu is a small island located just off the coast near Tawun, Sekotong, in southwest Lombok.
The Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort joined Sheraton Hotels worldwide in celebrating their 75th Anniversary this month.

As an expat working here in Lombok, I want to share with all our valuable visitors a few of the recipes that you will try around our lovely island, so hopefully you can take more than just a great memory home and show your friends that – apart from beautiful scenery, sexy beaches, amazing weather and friendly people – we have some exquisite food available here and Lombok people do take their food seriously! Selamat Makan! By Bryce Adamson, Qunci Villas.
QUESTION: My wife and I are holidaying in the fun filled town of Senggigi with its many bars and restaurants where we have started to go from bar to bar in search of friends and fun.
We always seem to end up in the Happy Café where I can get my sinuses cleared for free. Inevitably, one drink can lead to another and it is sometimes difficult to know where to stop. What do you suggest the drinking limit should be?

I have been on Gili Air for nearly one year now and, at the end of August, I’m off to new adventures elsewhere. In the time I’ve been here, I’ve learned a lot about the island, got to know some of the language and the people, and had a great if, at times, challenging time running a dive shop.
In this last column I want to share all the places that you should really visit when you come to Gili Air. I also have some tips for how to best enjoy the island.
