ADENG-ADENG… TAKING IT EASY ON GILI MENO

‘Adeng-Adeng’ literally translates as ‘slow, slow’ in Bahasa Sasak (the language of the indigenous Lombok people) and basically means the same as the western expression: ‘take it easy’.

Taking it easy perfectly sums up both the atmosphere of Adeng-Adeng on Gili Meno, as well as the philosophy of the Swedish owners.

• Around forty lucky people got a sneak preview of the new De Quake when it re-opened on Friday, 15 June. The beachfront restaurant in the Art Markets, Senggigi, had been closed for several weeks while the décor was revamped and a fresh, new menu was introduced.

Guests were wowed by the scrumptious new offerings created by Canadian Chef, Bryce Adamson, together with the De Quake kitchen team. Qunci Villas guest mixologist Dee Cee has also been working with the bar team to jazz up the cocktail list… the results are stunning! More to come next issue. www.dequake.com

The Senggigi Festival is Senggigi’s (and, possibly, Lombok’s) most colourful and fascinating event of the year. The annual Senggigi Festival is scheduled to take place this year from 5 - 8 July, with events being held in Senggigi Square (alongside Square Restaurant) and on the beachfront in Senggigi, as well as at the Pasar Seni (the Art Markets on the main street south of the Sheraton).

People regularly travelling past Batu Bolong Temple, just south of Senggigi, may have been alarmed recently by the sight of earthmoving equipment coming and going on the beachfront. No, they’re not doing anything stupid to this beautiful temple – thank goodness!

Gili Air

When people come up to the dive shop, or I go and chat to them at our island noticeboard, there are three questions that I think I get asked more than any others:

Why do the cats have weird tails?
What’s the diving like?
Can I have a discount?
