TAKING LOMBOK TO THE WORLD!

It’s that time of the year again, as we prepare to release this year’s edition of our popular annual full colour magazine. The Lombok Guide 2012 International Magazine contains 120 pages of useful information about Lombok and magnificent photos of our island in all its stunning natural glory.

5000 copies of our magazine will be distributed over the next month to international travel agents throughout Europe and the UK, Japan, Singapore, China, Australia, New Zealand and more. Copies are also distributed at international and national trade fairs throughout the year.

What a load of… RUBBISH!

What happens when the western world starts flocking to a third world island? One of the problems in developing areas that suddenly face an influx of tourists is that the infrastructure that we take for granted in the west usually doesn’t exist. And while growth is good for the economy and for the local people, it brings a new set of problems… not the least of which is rubbish and waste management.

Most western countries have already been through the cycle of growth starting with the advent of plastics in the 50’s – through mass consumerism and the overuse of plastics and other chemicals used in packaging and bottling – to the realisation of what those chemicals do to our environment and how difficult they are to get rid of.

• We’re loving the new café outside Deli Senggigi in the Galleria Shops (on Senggigi main street just south of the Art Markets). The simple roadside eatery is set up with tables under the trees, lit by glowing lamps at night, and surrounded by birds and the eclectic pet collection housed in cages outside Rambo Pet Shop.

TAKING LOMBOK TO THE WORLD… AGAIN!

There’s much excitement at our office this month as we prepare to once again distribute the latest edition of The Lombok Guide 2012 International Magazine.

The Lombok Guide has been publishing its annual full-colour magazine independently for the past five years. Publication of the magazine receives no support from the government and is funded entirely by advertising revenue from local businesses.

LOCAL SCENE

EASTER @ HORIZONTAL

Horizontal on Gili Trawangan is best known for its chic beach and party scene but a softer side comes out for the kids! Happy children (and their mums) from Lombok and the Gilis celebrated Easter with an Easter Egg hunt, fun games and prizes, and an Easter Sunday party.

QUESTION: My wife and I are recently divorced. I don’t think she liked me very much. When I had a heart attack, she wrote for an ambulance.

That’s why I came to the paradise island of Lombok. I have only been here for a few weeks and I have just received news that my mother-in-law has just died. The family is asking what we should do for her burial arrangements. Shall we have her embalmed, cremated or buried?

LOMBOK WELCOMES ITS FIRST LICENSED Q-GRADER!

Since its opening, Café Lombi has become a well known place for coffee lovers within our expat community, as well as amongst tourists often desperately wandering around Senggigi trying to find a good place for coffee.

Starting out as a bakery, after a few months Café Lombi slowly began to shift its main focus towards the coffee sector. Because of his own interest and preference for coffee, Martin the Manager of Café Lombi had already build up a huge amount of coffee knowledge; from learning the correct definitions of the most common coffees, to roasting and blending, up to servicing and repairing all types of coffee machines.

Gili Air

I would hate to tempt the fates but the rainy season appears to be over.  Apart from one five-minute downpour, it has not rained now for over two weeks.

In fact, it seems to be getting hotter and hotter all the time; I always have a fan with me now. He just yells, “Dante, you’re amazing!” which does nothing for the heat but is great for my ego!
